Rockstar Developer

There is a myth that says, if you’re in the software industry, I believe you could have come across this 10x engineer, right? Meaning, one engineer producing the output of 10 engineers.

Expectation vs Reality

In software engineering, the output doesn’t equate to the quantity of code output. Everyone is equal to the amount of time given in a day. Think about it how much faster can a rockstar type? That is without errors and compiling successfully on the first try.

Instead, they are the enabler where they develop and build the foundation of the software with good architecture and design. In such a way that any request coming in can accommodate elegantly. Thus, saving time on re-designing over and over again.

At the end of the day, is still the code that translates into a feature. And sometimes, you can’t escape the mundane and repetitive work. Such as writing the frontend page after page according to the UI design. That’s is where it starts to make no sense for 10x. They will still need to delegate and get help from a teammate. Having good architecture and framework helps speed things up, not just for themself but for the team.

Lastly, the team is not dependant on the rockstar. Attrition does happen, and often you see a company just got along just fine. People can step up their game, especially they have been working on the same code base. Unless is a solo project and the code is hard to read.

How does a rockstar pay be like? I took this from another website.

Unlike the artist, our job is stable. And it boils down to experience and skill that determine our market rate.

Rockstar Team

Instead, I would strongly encourage you to start to build a rockstar team. With a good team culture. That good stuff will just keep on inherit to the new joiner and maintain the rockstar team legacy.

By being a rockstar also learn to build leadership within and outside of the team.

1+1 > 2.

Empower everybody to feel like a rockstar regardless of the work they are doing. Feeling proud of the work and have the synergy to do more.
